How to Migrate from Gmail Without Losing Anything

The number one reason people stay with an email provider they dislike is fear of losing their history. Good news: a clean migration is mostly automated, and nothing is deleted from your old account until you say so.

Step 1 — Import your old mail

SendOrchard's import tool connects to Gmail over IMAP and copies your entire archive — folders, labels and all — into your new inbox. Your messages stay searchable from day one.

Step 2 — Set up forwarding

Turn on forwarding from your old address so anything sent there still reaches you during the transition. This safety net means you'll never miss a message while you tell contacts about your new address.

Step 3 — Bring your contacts

Export your contacts as a CSV or vCard from Gmail and import them in one click. Your address book arrives intact.

Step 4 — Update your important accounts

Over a week or two, update the email on your bank, work and shopping accounts. Forwarding catches anything you forget.

Step 5 — Keep or close the old account

There's no rush. Leave Gmail forwarding for as long as you like. When you're confident, close it — your full history already lives safely in SendOrchard.
